Palm Oil Proactivity

With increasing publicity surrounding the devastating environmental impact of unregulated palm oil production, it is worth remembering that Nice-Pak is a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).

Indeed, as far back as 2011,  Nice-Pak was the first wet wipe manufacturer to voluntarily use the Green Palm offset scheme before progressing to full membership in 2017.  Our suppliers meet our criteria requiring them to uphold international and ethical standards on human rights designed to help protect nature and people.

The benefits of sustainable palm oil include:

• The efficiency of palm trees means that they produce between 4 and 10 times more oil than other comparable crops per unit of cultivated land. Replacing palm oil with other types of vegetable oil, such as sunflower, soybean or rapeseed oil, would result in  less efficient use of land and, consequently, more environmental damage.
• In producing countries, millions of farmers and their families work in the palm oil sector. Palm oil plays an important role in the reduction of poverty in these areas.  Indeed, Malaysia’s biggest supermarket chain, Mydin, has recently removed products labelled ‘palm-oil-free’ from its stores due to the economic gains palm oil brings to the country.

With only 20% of palm oil sustainably certified there is much more to do on a global scale.
