Hand Wipe Sales Rise Sharply During Summer Months
Hand hygiene sales can be just as strong in summer as during the traditional cold and flu season. As consumers spend more time outdoors at festivals, family gatherings, days out and alfresco dining, demand for convenient on-the-go hygiene solutions increases.
While hand hygiene gained prominence during the pandemic, it remains an important year-round health consideration. With hands carrying an average of 3,200 germs, shoppers continue to seek practical ways to keep their hands clean when handling food, eating on the go or spending time in shared public spaces where soap and water may not be available.

The UK hand wipes sector is now worth £14.1 million*, with sales value growing by 48% since December 2021, following increased consumer focus on hygiene habits. The category currently accounts for 13.4 million packs.

Retailers have responded to this demand by allocating increased space to hand hygiene products at till points and within high-traffic areas of store, encouraging impulse purchases and cross-category shopping. Strategic placement during key seasonal periods, such as summer and ahead of the cold and flu season, continues to support category growth and reinforce the importance of hand hygiene products as an everyday essential.
Always follow on pack disposal instructions.
